Alexander’s Kennels has been a family operated and three generation business since 1950.  Our long time establishment has proven to be excellent in care taking  of pets and found highly recommended by local veterinarians.

The history began in 1945 when John and Helen Alexander (and daughter Audrey) moved to sleepy Lebanon (population 3,000 and the Golden Lamb Hotel was dry).

They settled on 35 acres overlooking the Lebanon Valley. They both loved dogs and started breeding Miniature Schnauzers and Boxers. Alexander’s kennels began for the purpose of breeding their own dogs. They produced several champions from  the kennel over the years.

As more people began to travel and discover Lebanon as being a country town, families from Cincinnati and Dayton started to migrate here. John and Helen were  quick to learn that there was a growing need for a public boarding kennel in  Lebanon. In 1950, Alexander’s Kennels began to meet the growing demand of boarding the family pet.

During the next forty years John and Helen became well known throughout the area for their excellence in caring for the need of pet owners.

In 1990, Audrey and her husband Jim Elliott assumed ownership of the kennels.

In 1991, the kennels was once again expanded to include an on site Grooming Salon and additional kennel space. Audrey received her professional degree from the Ohio Institute of Dog Grooming that same year. With the additions of the full service- grooming salon, Alexander’s Kennels was now able to provide the pet owner with the full line of pet care services.

The combination of the beautiful country atmosphere and friendly professional service has made Alexander’s one of the unique Pet Care facilities in Southwest Ohio.

Jim and Audrey’s daughter, Janette Heberling joined the family business full-time in 1999 as Office Manager.

In 2015, Janette took over the family business along with her husband, John.

Come meet the family and see for yourself why we have been in business for so long!
